Mayer and Jacobsen Dominate to Help Their Teams to the Quarterfinals

July 4, 2025 by Hammer And Rails

The future Boilers have put the college basketball world on notice

In the first round of games following pool play, Omer Mayer helped lead Israel to a hard fought victory over Cameroon while Daniel Jacobsen dominated the interior to help the Americans cruise over Jordan. Both have been great for their teams but Mayer has been playing on a totally different level for the Israelis. If you’d like a great breakdown of what Mayer is doing, check out Drew’s in-depth breakdown.

Mayer has averaged 23.7 points per game through their first three games and that leads the entire tourney by nearly two points per game. He has done this with good efficiency as he is ranked 6th in the entire tourney in that regard while shooting 12-26 for 46.2%. This is Israel’s first trip to the quarterfinals of the U-19 tourney and also their first win. How Mayer has played has certainly brought attention to the previously well regarded international guard before making it to campus at Purdue.

Purdue bound Omer Mayer just went for 33 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and just one turnover as Israel beat Cameron in the FIBA U19 World Cup.

Averaging 23.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 4.3 APG in the event.

Hey, @BoilerBall fans, here’s a quick scouting report of Israeli guard, Omer Mayer. He’s been starring in @FIBAWC Under 19’s. He’s not Rick Mount but he’s pretty darn good. @bigten @coach_paint pic.twitter.com/tg0tgWCNCJ

For Team USA, Daniel Jacobsen hasn’t been the focal point like Mayer is with Team Israel with players like AJ Dybantsa, Mikel Brown, and Morez Johnson, but he has made a big impact for the Americans. As the tourney has gone on, DJ has received more minutes and shown steady improvement as a result. In the game against Jordan, the 7’4 big man scored 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 blocks for a dominating performance. That brings his total for the tourney to 30 points, 21 rebounds, and 8 blocks in 59 total minute and a per 40 min average of 20.34 points, 14.24 rebounds, and 5.42 blocks.

7’4” Purdue Sophomore Daniel Jacobsen (@d_jacobsen23) RULED THE PAINT for Team USA vs Jordan in their 140-67 win.

The future Boilers will look to push their teams into the next round with games in the quarterfinals. Israel will take on 12th ranked Slovenia while the Americans will square off against 10th ranked Canada. Israel will play early for those of us in the states with their game tipping off at 5:45am while the Americans will tipoff at 11:15am. There is no chance Israel and the USA would face each other unless the two teams make it to the championship game.

Friday Quarterfinals in Switzerland.

⏰: 5:45 a.m. ET – Israel vs. Slovenia
⏰: 11:15 a.m. ET – USA vs. Canada
