International Prospect Commits to Boilers

April 16, 2025 by Hammer And Rails

Considered one of the better international prospects, Omer Mayer boosts an already loaded Boilermaker lineup for next season

Another piece to one of the most highly regarded rosters for college basketball next season got another big injection of talent as the Purdue Boilermakers will add highly regarded international prospect Omer Mayer. Mayer, an Israeli national, is considered one of the most talented young prospects outside of the United States as a big, 6’3 guard who has flashed in a short professional career oversees with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (Israel) in both their Israeli and Euro League teams. He recently took an on campus visit following a week at the Nike Hoops Summit where he flashed as a playmaking guard and able defender.

NEWS: Omer Mayer, a highly regarded international prospect from Israel, has committed to Purdue, he told ESPN.

Mayer, just 18 years old, averaged 5.5 points, 1 rebound, 2.1 assists in limited minutes for one of the better teams in the Israeli professional league. In the Nike Hoops Summit, Mayer was noted for high level vision as a ball dominant guard in all aspects of ball screens, notably pocket and skip passes similar to Braden Smith. Mayer also appears to have a quality shooting touch from behind the arc but appears to be content setting up teammates off the dribble, something Head Coach Matt Painter has placed a huge emphasis on from his point guards.

This may not be the last piece Purdue looks to add this off season as former North Florida forward Liam Murphy was rumored to be visiting Purdue yesterday along with a number of other potential players being rumored to have been contacted by Purdue as well. With Mayer’s addition, Purdue now has 11 players rostered with the ability to add as many as 15 due to scholarship expansions. Purdue is likely to not add more than 12 and reserve three spots for current walk-on players Aaron Fine, Sam King, and Josh Furst.

North Florida transfer forward Liam Murphy will be visiting Purdue today.
