Hammer and Rails Reader Survey Results – Was Purdue Finishing 4th a Disappointment?

NCAA Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament Second Round-Purdue vs USC

Plus, who will win the Big Ten Tournament.

It’s Friday so we’ve got Hammer and Rails reader survey results hot off the graphic designers desk! This week I wanted to know how you, the fans and readers, viewed the 4th place finish by the Boilermakers.

A majority, 58%, view this season’s 4th place finish as a disappointment. I think this has more to do with how Purdue finished in 4th rather than that they finished in 4th place. I saw a lot of comments on the site expressing this attitude that Purdue was in 1st place with a chance to complete the Three-Pete before running out of gas down the stretch and losing a number of winnable games. So perhaps a better way of wording this question would have been, did Purdue meet or exceed your pre-season expectations by finishing 4th. Perhaps worded that we would’ve seen a different answer.

Next, let’s check in to see who you all think will be the winner of the Big Ten Tournament.

No question here, the favorite is the team that won the conference by 3 games and that’s the Michigan State Spartans with 47%, a near majority. Purdue finished in 3rd place here with 14%. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable amount given that Purdue has a bit of an easier path to the tournament final. We will see if Purdue can get there when they take on Michigan tonight at 9:00 PM on BTN.
