Plus, let’s talk away stadiums.

Happy 4th of July to all who celebrate (I know we have some international readers, especially those in the UK who clearly don’t celebrate losing a war) may you enjoy plenty of hot dogs, burgers, adult beverages (if of age!), and of course some fireworks. I’ll be heading out of town around lunch time to a cookout and pool party. I hope you’re going to do the same.

This week I asked two questions, one football and one basketball. First, let’s take a look at the one regarding some actual competition that’s going on. Right now the FIBA U19 tournament is going on with two Boilermakers in Daniel Jacobsen and Omer Mayer competing for the USA and Israel respectively. I wanted to know which player you thought had more to prove in this tournament.

In overwhelming fashion Daniel Jacobsen wins with 77% of the vote. This surprised me. I know we didn’t see much out of Jacobsen last season due to injury, but Mayer is essentially an unknown commodity to Purdue fans so I thought this might’ve been more evenly split. I suppose though it makes sense because Jacobsen is coming off of an injury and we all want to see him shake off that rust. Okay, I’ve convinced myself.

Next, just for fun I wanted to see how many of the current Big Ten away stadiums you’d been to. It makes it difficult with new teams being added to the conference as well as Northwestern currently having a temporary stadium. But, just wanted to check the pulse a bit.

56% have been to 1-3 away stadiums. What was most interesting to me was that 20% had never gone to an away stadium. Given the close proximity of Illinois, Northwestern (above caveat noted), and IU I thought far more would have gone to at least one away stadium. Just 1% had gone to 13-16 away stadiums.

That’s it for us this week. Promotional consideration has been paid for by FanDuel. Please gamble responsibly.
