Purdue continues to be a feeder system for the U-19 team.
After Jed wrote earlier about Daniel Jacobsen making the first cut for the U19 team anticipation was building for whether he would earn the opportunity to don the Stars and Stripes. Well, today we got news that Purdue will once again be sending a player to represent our country as part of the U19 National Team at the FIBA World Cup.

Jacobsen, who of course is coming off last season’s season ending injury after 1 game and 1 minute, has earned the opportunity to test himself against the very best in the world in this FIBA Tournament. This is nothing but good news for Purdue and Daniel Jacobsen. There’s going to undoubtedly be some rust on Jacobsen has he returns to real game action here, and I’m glad it’s happening earlier rather than later. I want that rust shaken off and I want Jacobsen ready to go on Day 1 for this coming Purdue basketball season.
As pointed out by Cobra Stats on Twitter (yes I know), Purdue is basically becoming a feeder for the U19 team at this point.
A tradition unlike any other.
Purdue’s @d_jacobsen23 becomes the 7th Boilermaker since 2015 to represent the USA on the U19 team.

The Purdue release gives you a bit of a history lesson on this as well.
Purdue has been well-represented with USA Basketball on the U18 and U19 squads. Two years ago, Myles Colvin played in the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup in Hungary. Four years ago, both Jaden Ivey and Caleb Furst won gold medals for USA Basketball while Zach Edey won bronze with Team Canada. Both Ivey and Edey were named to the FIBA U19 World Cup 5 All-Star Team with Chet Holmgren, Victor Wenbanyama and Serbia’s Nikola Jovic.
In 2019, Trevion Williams won gold with USA Basketball, while Carsen Edwards won bronze in 2017. Lastly, Caleb Swanigan won gold in 2014 in the U17 World Cup before winning gold in the 2015 U19 World Cup.
This is also not the first taste of USA Basketball for Daniel Jacobsen as noted in the release from Purdue:
It marks the second straight year that Jacobsen has made the Junior National Team, helping the USA U-18 team win gold at the AmeriCup last summer in Argentina. Jacobsen was named to the All-Star Five second team after averaging 9.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 blocks in just 16.2 minutes per game. He set an AmeriCup record with 19 blocks in the event, surpassing current Indiana Pacers standout Myles Turner (18) for the top USA mark in the tournament’s history.
For those looking for a timetable on this tournament the release has you covered there as well:
The 12 athletes will continue to train at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the next few days, before departing for the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup, scheduled June 28 to July 6 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The first game is June 28th, 2:00 PM Eastern against Australia. The games will be broadcast on the FIBA YouTube page.
