The former NAIA transfer from Lawrence Tech looks to provide a boost on the offensive line in his second season with the Boilers
We are just 78 days away from the Purdue Boilermakers taking the field for the 2024 season and today we take a look at transfer offensive lineman Bakyne Coly. As a transfer from Lawrence Tech last season, Coly caught the eyes of the staff with an immense amount of athleticism for a potential offensive tackle. At 6’5 and a listed January weight of 280 (expected to be near 300 by the fall), Coly has a potentially high ceiling after playing defensive line in high school and switching positions just three seasons ago.
Coly will look to bolster an impressive haul of transfer offensive lineman to go with established veterans like Gus Hartwig, Mahamane Moussa, Jalen Grant, and Marcus Mbow. Purdue suffered a number of injuries to important offensive lineman throughout the season last year and needed to find solid depth pieces to ensure the offense can protect Hudson Card. Last season, Coly was very nearly inserted into a number of games due to the lack of available players. In that regard, Coly looks to be a quality piece of depth this season with the outlook of possibly starting next season.
