#30 – Parker Meese
Linebacker
6’2”, 230
Freshman
Dallas, TX
Projection: Reserve Linebacker/Redshirt?
Meese was originally a UNLV commitment who flipped to Purdue once Barry Odom was hired. He’s a player with a lot of upside potential and so the question becomes when does he reach it? Is he ready to play right now? Would he be smart to take a redshirt season and gain weight and knowledge about the Purdue system? Whatever choice Odom and staff make in collaboration with Meese will be the right choice for Meese’s long term future I’m sure.
Like I’ve said a number of times here, when Odom brings in a guy either directly from the UNLV roster or from the UNLV incoming class it’s important to take note. These are guys that Odom believes in and wants to be a part of his team. It’s a delicate balance when you come into a new school because you don’t want to ruin the vibe in the locker room, but you also have to let people know that things are changing and maybe they aren’t in the plans anymore. Gotta be tough.
Meese played for four different high schools but still managed to average 1o tackles per game across all these different programs. Regardless of how you feel about the high school hopping you’ve gotta acknowledge that shows a great ability to pick up a playbook and go out there and just play football. Sometimes I think we all overthink things and it might just boil down to, can he play football? If Meese impresses in camp maybe he doesn’t redshirt and finds time at the linebacker position and/or special teams.
