Weather Forecast for Saturday’s Notre Dame – Wisconsin Football Game at Soldier Field, Chicago

A pleasant noontime affair, unless the last time the Irish and Badgers met.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Wisconsin Badgers will clash at noon Saturday in Chicago’s Soldier Field, and do so amid temperatures in the mid-60 degrees Fahrenheit according to the latest Accuweather forecast.

The mercury will climb to the low 70s by game’s end, with no chance of participation in the area. If you’re going to tailgate or grab a spot for either College GameDay or FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff (both airing at 8 a.m. local time), you may want to consider long sleeves or jeans. The temperature is supposed to fluctuate between 55 degrees and 65 degrees between the time you’d be there for a good spot and the time they go off air before the noon kickoff.

It was a much chillier affair the last time the Irish invaded Soldier Field. Kickoff for the Oct. 6, 2012 game against the Miami Hurricanes was 44 degrees under cloudy skies, although that contest did not begin until 6:39 p.m. local time.

The record high for Sept. 25 in Chicago is 92 degrees, which was set in 2017. The record low for that day in the Windy City was 30 degrees in 1932.

Notre Dame last played on a Sept. 25 in 2010, when kickoff temperatures were 57 degrees and accompanied by partly cloudy skies and 13 mph winds at Notre Dame Stadium. The Stanford Cardinal prevailed, 37-14, that day.

The last time Notre Dame and Wisconsin met on the gridiron was Sept. 26, 1964, a 31-7 Irish win in Madison.

“Rain and Snow were the order of the day,” wrote The Racine Journal-Times’ Ralph Trower in the paper’s edition the following day. “The former, accompanied ny winds ranging up to 35 miles an hour, drenched 64,398 spectators at Camp Randall Stadium. The latter was a Notre Dame end, name of Jack, who caught nine passes for 217 yards including touchdown plays of 61 and 42 yards.”
