He’s from Texas
The Notre Dame football roster is full of great players — known and unknown. No matter the place on the depth chart or the recruiting ranking a player had attached to him before his arrival at Notre Dame — there are probably some things I really like about him. So over the course of the next few months, let’s take a positive approach to running down the roster.
Almost daily (just being honest) I’ll list three things I like about a single player on the roster, and as an additional bonus, I’ll post some extra pics over on the OFD Instagram account (be sure to follow RIGHT HERE).
Next up…
#11 KK Smith — Wide Receiver
The 6’0” 174 pound junior from Reedy High School in Frisco, Texas, was once committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders before Notre Dame came calling for the flip.
Here are 3 things I like about KK Smith:
1. I like initials.
It certainly isn’t a prerequisite for my adoration as a fan — but I like players that use their initials for their first name. There might be 1000 Kaleb Smith’s out there, but very few (at least I think) go by the name, “KK Smith.” That means something.
Elite route by KK Smith.
Excited to see more and more snaps from him on Saturdays.

2. I like that he’s unassuming.
Smith didn’t hold a lot of offers out of high school — at least publicly. He was ranked as a 3-Star, and while his athleticism was definitely loud on film, his stats in high school were not. Basically… he has one of those origin stories that make for a good “rise to glory” story.
“I do believe I can play at this level and flourish at this level. I’ve been showing that in practice every other day and I’m trying to get it to where it’s consistent and the coaches can rely on me.” – Notre Dame WR KK Smith https://t.co/FBA2mydPFu pic.twitter.com/aKK8klDNUa

3. I like that he’s still at Notre Dame.
Smith’s name has been tossed around as a player that impressed coaches during practice. He did suffer a bit of an injury that set him back some, but mostly he’s doing the development thing (he still has three years of eligibility). Still… in this day and age we have seen players leave to try and find more playing time, and with his Texas roots it wouldn’t be hard to find a D1 school in need of his services — but he’s still here. Let’s get to work.
