QB1?
The Notre Dame football roster is full of great players — known and unknown. No matter the place on the depth chart or the recruiting ranking a player had attached to him before his arrival at Notre Dame — there are probably some things I really like about him. So over the course of the next few months, let’s take a positive approach to running down the roster.
Almost daily (just being honest) I’ll list three things I like about a single player on the roster, and as an additional bonus, I’ll post some extra pics over on the OFD Instagram account (be sure to follow RIGHT HERE).
Next up…
#13 CJ Carr — Quarterback
CJ Carr is one of the most high profile recruits in recent memory for the Irish. While there have been other players more highly ranked — none of them were a quarterback, and none of them were the grandson of Lloyd Carr. The 6’3” 209 pound sophomore from Saline High School in Saline, Michigan, was destined to play QB for the Michigan Wolverines — until he wasn’t.
Here are three things I like about CJ Carr:
1. I like that he’s making his own path.
Admittedly, I love a good legacy story just about anywhere. Perhaps it’s the father in me or my unusually high interest in monarchy that makes me feel that way. And yet… it’s also the father in me that loves to see kids have the guts to make their own decisions and create a new story. Carr could have gone the easy way by staying in-state as a Michigan legacy, but this is about his full name — not just his last name.

2. I like that he looks the part.
This isn’t just about his physical stature or his golden boy looks — it’s about how he carries himself on and off the field. There’s no primadonna demeanor or quotes. There’s no negative body language. As a freshman he played the part of QB4 , and even got injured during practice. He did all of that, and came in this spring to compete for the starting QB job at the University of Notre Dame. He’s tough.
QB CJ Carr was excellent in the Blue-Gold Game.
14-19, 170 yds, 2 TD, INT.

3. I like that Carr can bring more to the table.
I will forever have an undying love for Riley Leonard and what he accomplished at Notre Dame, but the Irish offense lacked significant explosion in the passing game. Carr, by most accounts, has the ability to turn that narrative upside down — and the dude can still scoot. CJ will never be the battling ram Leonard was, and we don’t need or want him to while at ND. Carr has the ability to become an elite passer with quick feet. It’s an extra dimension to the offense the Irish need this year and beyond.
