Tommy Rees is leaving Notre Dame behind to become Alabama’s next offensive coordinator. This move was announced this Friday afternoon.
Rees, 30, took a visit to Alabama on Thursday. Clearly, his interview with Nick Saban went very well.
Since Rees will lead Alabama’s offense for the 2023 season, Notre Dame fans are wondering if quarterback Sam Hartman will follow him to Tuscaloosa.
Hartman transferred to Notre Dame in January. He finished his Wake Forest career with 12,967 passing yards and 110 touchdown passes.
Notre Dame’s fan base obviously wants to see Hartman under center this fall.
“Sam Hartman cannot be pleased by Rees’ exit,” one fan said.
“I swear to God if this impacts Sam Hartman in any way I am coming for you Tommy I swear to God,” a Notre Dame fan wrote on Twitter.
Another fan asked, “Any word on whether transfer QB Sam Hartman follows him?
“If you’re Marcus Freeman you got to go get a killer at OC to go with Sam Hartman,” JBook tweeted. “Big changes for both Ohio State and Notre Dame at OC heading into that matchup next year.”
The hope in South Bend was that Hartman would shine in Rees’ offense. That plan is no longer on the table.
It’s up to Marcus Freeman to find a worthy replacement at offensive coordinator.
