Ohio Tight End Preston Fryzel commits to Notre Dame

June 23, 2025 by One Foot Down

BIG OHIO GUY

The good news keeps coming for Notre Dame Football to start this week after a blistering end to last week. On Monday, 3-Star tight end Preston Fryzel gave his public commitment to Marcus Freeman and the 2026 Notre Dame football recruiting class.

BREAKING: Class of 2026 TE Preston Fryzel has Committed to Notre Dame, he tells me for @on3recruits

The 6’4 220 TE from Toledo, OH chose the Fighting Irish over Iowa & Miami

The 6’4” 220 pounder from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, chose the Irish over a pretty good and interesting offer list that included the Miami Hurricanes, Iowa Hawkeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, North Carolina Tar Heels, Auburn Tigers, and more.

From ISD’s Jaime Uyeyama:

I think Fryzel is massively underrated right now. His rating at this point in the process is similar to what Eli Raridon’s was the summer before his senior season and he made a big jump in the rankings and ended up as a top-100 prospect. I think we could see a similar trajectory for Fryzel.

Iowa evaluates and develops the tight end as well as any program and I see a lot of similar traits to former Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta. He became a very productive player for the Hawkeyes and eventually was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

This is the 20th commitment for Notre Dame’s 2026 class and the second from the state of Ohio. The Irish currently have the #3 ranked recruiting class according to the 247 Team Composite ranking.

Notre Dame’s TE recruiting over the last few cycles might suggest that Fryzel will be the lone commitment for that group in this class, but I still believe they would like to add one more — as long as it’s the RIGHT one more.

While I believe Jaime’s assessment and projection of Fryzel is pretty accurate, I’d also like to throw in Mitchell Evans name for my own sake. You mean to tell me that the Irish are getting another very big boy from Ohio to block and catch passes? Yeah man… I’m sold.

WELCOME TO ND PRESTON!
