Old school flavor

Notre Dame basketball released some 2025-2026 schedule news, and they will face a couple of old foes in the preseason.

From the ND press release:

Irish to Host DePaul in Exhibition Bout Oct. 24

Will also travel to Butler on Oct. 17 to complete preseason slate

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s basketball, in conjunction with the DePaul Blue Demons, has announced an exhibition bout between the two inside Purcell Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 24. An exact tip time will be established later this fall. Prior, the Butler Bulldogs announced they would be hosting the Irish in Hinkle Fieldhouse for an exhibition on Friday, Oct. 17, thus completing Notre Dame’s two-exhibition slate for the preseason.

Notre Dame and DePaul have a storied and rich history – 106 total games competed against one another on the hardwood, with the Irish up in the series 62-44. The last time the Blue Demons took the trip down I-90 to South Bend was back on Nov. 24, 2018 – a 95-70 Irish victory. In fact, the Irish have won 11 straight in the series, with the streak dating back to 2007.

Next, the history between Notre Dame and Butler, no different, with 103 games played between the two, with the series starting in 1909. The Irish have been pretty dominant overall in the series, up 72-31.

However, it’s been 20 years since ND’s last trip to Hinkle – Feb. 15, 1995.

Of course, Glenn & Stacey Murphy Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry has a strong connection with Butler, serving as an assistant coach under Brad Stevens during their back-to-back runs to the national championship game in 2010 and 2011. Shrewsberry and Stevens compiled an 87-21 record together with two Horizon League regular-season and two tournament titles.
