Notre Dame Men’s Basketball Game at Clemson Postponed

Just as the Irish build on their recent momentum and look forward to a chance at a nice ACC win, COVID forces another postponement

Well, folks, it happened again. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s basketball team has had yet another game disrupted due to COVID, as the ACC announced this morning that a positive test plus contact tracing and quarantining within the Clemson Tigers program has forced Wednesday evening’s game to be postponed.

This would appear to be the 6th Irish game this year postponed or cancelled due to COVID (Western Michigan 2x, Tennessee, Syracuse, Howard, Clemson), with all those postponements or cancellations coming due to the other team having a positive case.

There is no word yet on if the schedule will be adjusted or if the Irish will replace the Tigers with another team on short notice.

Irish lose another game to COVID issues on the opposing team. Too early for any word on a replacement team or schedule adjustment. https://t.co/0nnv82ZMrw

This comes at a rough time for the Irish, who’ve won six of their last eight games after a ROUGH start to the season against a very difficult schedule. The softer back half of their season slate has provided them the opportunity to build some momentum, and with Clemson currently sitting 5th in the conference standings, Wednesday was going to provide Mike Brey and his team a chance to pick up a really nice, but winnable, road victory and the chance to get back to .500 (both overall and in the ACC).

If no adjustments or replacements happen, the Irish are scheduled to play next at the Syracuse Orange at 2 PM ET on Saturday, 2/20. The Orange are currently 7th in the ACC, and thus it’s another chance for the Irish to go on the road and defeat a decent but beatable squad.

We will keep you posted as we find out more, but for now — don’t expect to see Brey and the boys back in action until next weekend in New York.
