Theisen scored his first collegiate hat trick, but it wasn’t enough to overpower the Badgers.
After a 2-0 loss at home Friday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish returned to Compton Family Ice Arena Saturday to take on the Wisconsin Badgers a second time. While Colin Theisen snatched the first hat trick of his college hockey career, the game ended in the Badgers’ favor with a score of 5-3 Wisconsin.
The Irish and Badgers were heading toward a scoreless first period until Wisconsin’s Ty Pelton-Byce put his guys on the board at around 16 minutes into play.
The Badgers kept their momentum going and Ryder Donovan chalked up a second goal for Wisconsin less than four minutes into the second. As the period neared its end, Notre Dame’s Colin Theisen scored the first Irish goal of the game. Not even two minutes later, Theisen claimed his second goal of the night to tie the game 2-2. However, it was Wisconsin’s Brock Caulfield who shut down the period with a goal for the Badgers to end the second 3-2 Wisconsin.
Around 8 minutes into the third period, Colin Theisen scored to tie the game and lock in a hat trick. However, Wisconsin’s Dylan Holloway brought the Badgers ahead and Donovan brought the score to 5-3 Wisconsin to end the night.
