Notre Dame expects fans to set a major milestone for this year’s Aer Lingus College Football Classic.
The school announced that tickets for the Aug. 26 matchup at Dublin against Navy are sold out. Furthermore, they believe 39,000 fans are expected to travel to Ireland, setting a world record for the most Americans to travel internationally for any sporting event.
“This year’s event in Dublin will see the largest movement of Americans into Europe in peace time with the game set to provide a huge boost to the Irish economy and hospitality sector,” the game’s co-founder and director, Padriac O’Kane, said.
Díolta amach. Sold out.

The Fighting Irish will face the Midshipmen at Aviva Stadium, which holds up to 51,700 people. Last year, 15,000 Americans made up the 42,699 attendees for Northwestern’s win over Nebraska.
It’s only the third time Notre Dame and Navy will meet, with the last encounter at Aviva Stadium in 2012. An estimated 35,000 Americans went to Dublin to see a 50-10 Fighting Irish triumph.
