Big home favorites going into this game

It’s Gonna Feel Great To Be Home

WHEW. We’re definitely back. Stress over Notre Dame Fighting Irish games is so back. After Sunday’s insanity, I believe we are all ready to see ND build from being 1-0 and move on for the rest of the season. After having to be road warriors, the Irish are coming back to South Bend and the House That Rockne Built to play their first home game of the 2021 Season. The game against Toledo should be a bit different from the game against FSU for many reasons. The betting lines that we see for the game are different, too. Let’s break it down.

ND vs. Toledo Betting Lines

Last week against FSU, the spread was Irish -7. Of course Vegas knew, because we know that FSU actually covered that spread with an Irish 41-38 victory. This week, with a MAC school coming into Notre Dame Stadium for the first ND home game of the year, the spread is very different. Notre Dame is a 16.5-point favorite against the Rockets. Additionally, the O/U is set at 53.5, which is slightly lower than the O/U for the game against FSU. That over absolutely hit last week. And as we see from the money line, the Irish are clear favorites to win the game.

Matty G’s Predictions

There are a few things to consider with this game. For one, the Irish have a short week this week with playing only 6 days apart. However, this will be the first full capacity home game since 2019, and I predict the fans and student section will be AMPED. Toledo is also in solid contention to win the MAC this season. So, there are some factors to consider. However, I predict that the Irish cover this spread. That would be a 17+ point victory, and I can see that happening. They run out and show the talent that they have.

I think Toledo will score a little bit and it might be closer in the first half, but I think the Irish will get in a groove. If Jack Coan can put up similar numbers in passing PLUS any positive addition to the running game will add even more offense than we saw on Sunday, we could see some points scored. I think this will just be too much for Toledo, and the Irish should win comfortably. Also, because of the points scored, I’m calling for the OVER to hit in this game. If the OVER hits and the Irish cover, that score could look something like 35-21. Interestingly enough, Oddsshark is predicting the OVER to hit but Toledo covering the spread, even though the trends they show provide examples where Toledo are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 and the ND games in September usually hit the OVER. We’ll see what happens when a Top 10 team plays a MAC Champion hopeful.

DAMHSA BUA Prediction

Last week, the DAMHSA BUA total went OVER. This week, I’m going to up the number just a tad. Let’s set it at 5.5 DAMHSA BUAs played in Notre Dame Stadium. I think we see 6+ TDs this coming weekend at home, so let’s go with the OVER. Let me know in the comments and in the poll what we think about the spreads.

Go Irish. Beat Rockets.
