Notre Dame coach goes on rant after latest loss

February 18, 2025 by Zags Blog

BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ

It has been a difficult season for Notre Dame basketball and head coach Micah Shrewsberry took all his frustrations out on the microphone after the team’s loss 75-60 to No. 25 Louisville on Sunday.

“If you think I suck, If you think I can’t coach I’m with you, man good,” Shrewsberry, whose team lost for the fourth time in five games and fell to 11-14, 5-9 ACC, told the media. “You think I should be fired? Good for you. You’re allowed to have opinions. A lot of people have given up on this team and given up on me. I don’t really give a damn.”

While Shrewsberry’s morale seemed to be low in the moment he made sure to still have the back of his players.

“Don’t give up on these guys. Don’t give up on these kids,” Shrewsberry pleaded. “You don’t want to show up because of me? Don’t show up because of me. I’m ok with that.” Unfortunately, Shrewsberry’s speech on behalf of his team began to grow into frustration. “I don’t care about anybody’s opinion I know who I am. I know I can coach Basketball and I know I’m turning this program around. So if you gave up on me already I don’t want to see you back here I don’t give a damn. Don’t give up on these kids because we are going to get this thing rolling. I sat there and watched more Lousiville fans than Notre Dame people and that’s embarrassing that’s embarrassing for me because I am the head coach here.”

The press conference came to an abrupt ending with Shrewsberry slapping the microphone out of the way before storming off.

Micah Shrewsberry went on a 2:40 rant in his postgame press conference, which included hitting a mic.
