NBC made an embarrassing mistake involving Joe Montana during this Saturday’s broadcast of the Navy-Notre Dame game in Dublin.
When the cameras turned to Montana, NBC put up a ticker that referred to him as a five-time Super Bowl champion.
The issue with that statement is that it’s flat-out wrong. Montana won four Super Bowl titles with the 49ers, not five.
Though it’s not a huge surprise, the football community roasted NBC’s team for this mistake.
“Congrats to Joe Montana for finally inheriting Steve Young’s Super Bowl,” Big Cat of Barstool Sports jokingly said.
“If only we could film Steve Young’s reaction to this,” one fan commented. “This is hilarious. NBC Sports has a real crack staff of interns.”
Another fan wrote, “Anything to look like he’s closer to Brady’s greatness.”

Obviously, this is a rough look for NBC. Their production team had weeks to prepare for this matchup between Navy and Notre Dame.
NBC will try to have a bounce-back performance when it televises next Saturday’s game for the Fighting Irish.
