Most Notre Dame Football fans want the grass back in the stadium

Last week we set up a survey to ask Notre Dame Football fans if they would like grass back in the stadium instead of fieldturf. Overwhelmingly, Irish fans said they wanted the natural surface back inside Notre Dame Stadium.

A lot of fans pointed at “injuries” as a big reason for their choice. They aren’t the only ones either. When Bill Belichick took over as the Head Coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, he pushed the university to change from using the fieldturf surface that had been in use since 2019, to natural grass.

While some Notre Dame fans point to the “browning” of the natural grass field later in the season — it’s still something that can be managed and maintained by a good grounds crew.

Numerous studies have pointed to increased injuries on synthetic surfaces as opposed to natural surfaces — so what are we even doing here?

Notre Dame is pulling in a lot of money annually, and if they WANT to make this happen — they can. Past reasons for pro-fieldturf use about using the football stadium for concerts and other such things, seem pretty silly when you consider the low number of events that actually happen there.
