New Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is fired up to play his alma mater in September.
The Fighting Irish are set to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in their first game of the season, which will also be Freeman’s head-coaching debut.
Freeman was a guest on the Rich Eisen Show on Monday and said that he’s not too worried about facing the Buckeyes. Part of the reason is that he’s played OSU before when he was with Cincinnati.
“Fortunate for me, I did it two years ago when I was at Cincinnati,” Freeman said. “I think that was a blessing in disguise. This isn’t about me going back there because I just did it. I know what it’s like to go back there and be in the visiting locker room, which was the first time I’ve been back since I played or was a graduate assistant, really. I got to experience life on the other side of the field. Now it’s about going back there with this current team and let’s go play.”
Freeman took the program over late last year after Brian Kelly departed for LSU.
He’s looking to keep the program in the conversation for National Championships for many years to come.
The game will take place on Sept. 3.
