There may be some awkward holiday dinners in the Carr family going forward. After taking a visit to Notre Dame, CJ Carr, five-star quarterback and grandson of legendary Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, is trending towards joining the Irish.
Carr is currently ranked as the No. 5 QB in the 2024 class. The Michigan-native is widely regarded as the state’s best recruit and has offers from the Wolverines, Michigan State, Penn State and Georgia. In addition to the Fighting Irish.

Obviously Notre Dame and Michigan have a storied rivalry. And after meeting with ND’s Tommy Rees, Carr described his visit to South Bend as “great.”
“… Getting to be around coach Rees was awesome,” Carr said, via Irish Breakdown, over the weekend. “… we went out on the practice field when practice started and they had a great practice. There was lots of competition that was happening, so I thought that was really cool. Then we went and had a little photo shoot and did all that stuff, ate lunch, went back and talk to coach Rees privately …
“So it was overall, just a great visit,” the QB concluded.

Michigan was CJ Carr’s first notable offer. The school that his grandfather led to a 122-40 record from 1995-2007; winning a national championship and five Big Ten Coach of the Year honors.
The Wolverines already have a five-star signal-caller in the waiting in J.J. McCarthy. And with Notre Dame making Carr a top priority, he very well could be the young man to lead the next era of Irish football.
