Irish take down Ohio State in NCAA Tournament

REVENGE

On Sunday in Columbus, Ohio, the Notre Dame Lacrosse team took down the Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCAA Tournament, 15-6.

I’m sure Drew Brennan will provide a much more detailed recap and analysis this week, but I wanted to make sure we start fist-pumping right NOW over this delightful revenge game.

Notre Dame, Syracuse Notch First-Round Wins in NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame and Syracuse claimed first-round wins on Sunday, May 11, in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The No. 6 seed Orange rallied from a six-goal deficit and won in overtime over Harvard, 13-12, while Notre Dame went on the road and dominated in a 15-6 victory over No. 4 seed Ohio State.

Syracuse (12-5) will play No. 3 seed Princeton on Saturday, May 17, at 2:30 p.m. ET in Hempstead, New York, and Notre Dame (9-4) will battle No. 5 seed Penn State on Sunday, May 18, at noon ET in Annapolis, Maryland. Both games will air on ESPNU.

The two-time reigning national champion, Notre Dame pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Buckeyes 8-2 in the half to win in Columbus, Ohio. The Fighting Irish was led by the duo of Chris Kavanagh and Jake Taylor, as each registered a hat trick with three goals. Kavanagh added two assists and Taylor had one. The Irish dominated the faceoff dot, led by Will Lynch, who finished winning 17-of-23 faceoffs while scooping up 13 ground balls, which tied his career high. Thomas Ricciardelli was equally impressive in goal for Notre Dame, making 15 saves.

Syracuse’s Owen Hiltz scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Orange came back to knock off Harvard in Syracuse, New York. Syracuse trailed 8-2 at halftime and by as many as five goals early in the fourth quarter, but outscored Harvard 7-3 in the final frame to force overtime. Luke Rhoa matched a career high with four goals for Syracuse. John Mullen went 24-of-28 in the faceoff circle.

No. 7 seed Duke (12-6) and No. 8 seed North Carolina (10-5) saw their seasons end in first-round losses on Saturday, May 10. The Blue Devils fell to Georgetown, 16-12, in Durham, North Carolina, while UNC was knocked out by Richmond, 13-10, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The NCAA Division I semifinal and championship games will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The semifinals will be televised on ESPN2 on Saturday, May 24, and the championship game will be played Monday, May 26, on ESPN.

At least one current ACC member team has advanced to the national semifinals in 43 of the last 45 years and the five active ACC teams have combined for 27 national championships, including 11 of the last 16.
