May 18, 2025 by One Foot Down

Hello momentum

After dropping game two against the Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame brought out the big guns on Saturday to earn a series victory.

From the ND press release:

Irish Take Series with Emphatic Win Over Hurricanes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Notre Dame baseball team outscored Miami 10-0 over the final four innings for a 12-2 victory and to take the series over the Hurricanes in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

DM Jefferson was hit by a pitch to start off the game, and Carson Tinney laced a single to left. The pair both advanced 90 feet on a foul flyout by Davis Johnson to get into scoring position. Parker Brzustewicz went the other way with a full-count pitch for an RBI single to drive in Jefferson as the Irish struck first. Brzustewicz then kept a rundown going long enough for Tinney to come in to score as the Irish went up 2-0 through the first half of an inning of play.

The Hurricanes got a run in the bottom of the first before Jackson Dennies got a big strikeout with two runners in scoring position to end the inning. Dennies then retired the side in order in the bottom of the second to roll the game over to the third.

The defense continued to keep the Miami offense locked down as Dennies induced a fly ball to Brady Gumpf in right field to force the Hurricanes into stranding a runner in scoring position.

Miami drew even in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out double to knot the game at 2-2.

Carson Tinney used one swing of the bat in the top of the sixth to regain the lead as the Irish sophomore belted his 16th home run of the season to put Notre Dame up 3-2. Parker Brzustewicz drew a walk, and Estevan Moreno hit a no-doubt homer off the scoreboard to make it a 5-2 lead for the Irish.

Ricky Reeth got back-to-back outs to start the sixth and closed out the inning two batters later with a strikeout. The offense continued to provide down the stretch for the Irish. Brady Gumpf drew a one-out walk, and Carson Tinney was hit by a pitch with two outs. Davis Johnson drove an RBI single into center field to drive in Gumpf to make it a 6-2 contest. Reeth made quick work of the Hurricanes in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side in order.

The Irish added to their lead in the top of the eighth. Connor Hincks drew a lead-off walk, and Estevan Moreno drew a walk of his own. Jared Zimbardo moved the pair up with a sacrifice bunt, and Nick DeMarco drove in Hincks with a laser single to left field. Brady Gumpf then lofted a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Moreno for an 8-2 advantage. DM Jefferson drew a walk, and Carson Tinney destroyed the first pitch of his at-bat with a 438-foot home run to make it an 11-2 game.

Oisin Lee came on in relief in the bottom of the eighth and registered a strikeout while facing four batters.

Parker Brzustewicz led off the top of the ninth with a single to right, and Connor Hincks drilled a double down the right field line to put a pair into scoring position. Estevan Moreno drove in Brzustewicz with a sacrifice fly to right field for a 12-2 lead.

Oisin Lee retired the side in order as the Irish captured their fifth-consecutive series.

Jackson Dennies had a no-decision effort in 4.2 innings of work with two strikeouts. Ricky Reeth earned the win on the bump with 2.1 innings of shutout baseball, scattering two hits and striking out two. Oisin Lee closed out the final 2.0 on the hill with no hits and one strikeout.

Carson Tinney went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Tinney now has 17 homers on the season, moving him into a tie for sixth for the most home runs in a single-season in program history. Parker Brzustewicz was 2-for-3 at the dish with two walks, an RBI, and two runs. Estevan Moreno was 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBI, and two runs. Connor Hincks had a double and scored a run. Nick DeMarco had a hit, an RBI, and scored once. Davis Johnson had a hit and drove in a run for the Irish. DM Jefferson scored twice and Brady Gumpf added a run and an RBI.

The Irish (32-20, 14-16 ACC) now look to the ACC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, May 20 in Durham, N.C. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The official seeding and bracket will be announced later this weekend.
