Didn’t expect this, but that’s good news

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish linebacker David Adams has entered the transfer portal.

After previously being forced to walk away from football, #NotreDame linebacker David Adams will give it another shot.

Adams was a part of the 2017 Irish recruiting class, and was a 4-Star prospect from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh. Kurt Hunish was a teammate of Adams’ in high school and joined him in committing to Notre Dame.

While Hinish was used in the defensive line rotation right away as a freshman, Adams took a more typical freshman route with the scout team —and then a series of injuries finally forced Adams to be declared medically ineligible come the summer of 2018.

When Adams announced his medical exemption in June of 2018, he listed the following injuries he had suffered late in his high school career at Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic and early in his Notre Dame career: concussions, a torn labrum in his left shoulder, a torn labrum, rotator cuff and bicep tendon in his right shoulder, a torn UCL in his right elbow, a knee injury that required surgery, chronic shin splints and chronic patellar tendinitis.

On Monday, Adams officially entered the transfer portal and will look to continue his football career with his Notre Dame degree in hand. With a 2017 redshirt and the 2020 COVID-19 rule, Adams should have two years of eligibility left to play football.
