Notre Dame recently announced that starting left tackle Blake Fisher avoided an ACL injury in the season opener against Florida State. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t miss a significant amount of time.
On Thursday, Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly had an unfortunate update to share with the media regarding Fisher’s status.
After undergoing surgery on his meniscus, Fisher is expected to miss the next eight weeks. This is a really tough blow to Notre Dame’s offensive line, as Fisher was expected to be an important piece for that unit.
Now that Fisher is officially out for the foreseeable future, the Fighting Irish will need to rely on sophomore offensive tackle Michael Carmody. He performed well in camp this summer, which is why he earned the backup role behind Fisher.
Unfortunately, the Fighting Irish didn’t just lose Fisher during their Week 1 matchup with the Seminoles. Senior linebacker Shayne Simon suffered a shoulder injury in the second half.
Kelly announced that Simon will miss the rest of the season because of an injury to his labrum.
Lots of personnel news from #NotreDame today … OT Blake Fisher out 8 weeks following knee meniscus surgery. … LB Shayne Simon out for the year with shoulder labrum team. … WR Xavier Watts moves to Rover on defense …

Notre Dame probably won’t need Fisher or Simon to take down Toledo this weekend, but it’s concerning that injuries are already piling up for this program.
If the Fighting Irish are going to reach their full potential this fall, they’ll need to stay relatively healthy for the rest of this season.
