FOX Sports analyst and former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn had some strong words for critics of his alma mater Monday night.
After Notre Dame was beaten 31-14 by Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal, many college football fans and some media members shouted the popular refrain that the Fighting Irish don’t belong in the playoff going forward. Notre Dame has been blown out in both of its appearances in the CFP as well as its lone trip to the BCS National Championship Game.
However, at halftime of Alabama’s 52-24 beatdown of Ohio State in last night’s title game, Quinn took to Twitter to call out those who badmouthed Notre Dame for its performance against the Crimson Tide.
Just throwing this out there….because you know, A LOT of hot takes after @NDFootball loss, but what did Devonta Smith have vs them? How many points did they give up…? Got it. 👍🏼

For those scoring at home, Smith went for seven receptions, 130 yards and three touchdowns against ND. He registered 12 catches, 215 yards and three scores in the first half against Ohio State as Alabama built a 35-17 halftime lead.
Getting back to Quinn and his arguments, on one hand they have some merit. Notre Dame was outclassed by Alabama but the Crimson Tide boatraced every opponent they faced this year. They were just that good.
However, the narrative of the Fighting Irish being overmatched against college football’s elite is based on plenty of evidence. Notre Dame has unquestionably been one of the best programs in the country the last five or six years, but they’ve also lost big to Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State in bowl games during that time.
Fair or not, until ND manages to win a New Year’s Six or College Football Playoff game, they’ll continue to hear people saying they don’t belong.
