Four-star defensive tackle recruit Owen Wafle has announced his decision to de-commit from Notre Dame’s 2024 class.
The top-5 player in New Jersey made his announcement with a social media post on Wednesday.
“After much consideration and reflection, I have decided to decommit from Notre Dame… I believe it’s important for me to explore other opportunities and find the best fit for me personal and athletic development,” Wafle wrote on Twitter.

Wafle committed to Notre Dame just over a year ago in May 2022. According to 247Sports Crystal Ball, he recently received an offer from the Michigan Wolverines and is expected to make his way to Ann Arbor in 2024.
Wafle was the Fighting Irish’s first commitment in the 2024 class. At the time of his original commitment, the 6-foot-3, 290 lbs DL selected Notre Dame over programs like Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State, West Virginia and more. He’s also received offers from Oklahoma and Duke after his initial commitment.
Michigan already has the No. 2 ranked 2024 recruiting class in the nation. The addition of Wafle would make that class even more powerful.
