4-Star RB Sedrick Irvin decommits from Notre Dame

May 20, 2022 by One Foot Down

Sad to see him go

On Friday, 4-Star Florida running back Sedrick Irvin announced his decommitment from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

After speaking to my parents and coaches I have decided it would be in my best interest to de-commit from the University of Notre Dame and I am reopening my recruitment . I appreciate everyone at Notre Dame for recruiting me.

When Irvin committed to the Irish back in September, it all made perfect sense on the roster. At the time, Irvin was considered one of the ten best running backs in the nation, and Notre Dame was in sure need of more talent at the position. We knew Kyren Williams was likely to leave and had a pretty good idea that C’Bo Flemister was going to be gone as well. With Logan Diggs, Audric Estime, Jadarian Price, and Chris Tyree scheduled to be on the roster in 2023 adding one back to the class seemed likely. Adding a second back was always an option — but that’s when it gets tricky.

The Irish added Gi’Bran Payne to the 2022 class this spring, and then they continued to pursue multiple backs for the 2023 class. The numbers weren’t adding up the way they were in the fall of 2022. 4-Star RB Jayden Limar is predicted to commit to the Irish soon, and Notre Dame is hosting 5-Star RB Richard Young in June. Even without Young in the class, the addition of Payne and the likely addition of Limar really muddied up the waters for a path to playing time for Irvin.

Irvin chose the Irish over a strong list of offers that included the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, and his father’s alma mater the Michigan State Spartans. We wish the best of luck to Irvin and whatever path he takes on his way to play college football.

Notre Dame continues to hold a large lead with the #1 recruiting class for the 2023 cycle.
