A big flip
On Saturday, 4-Star running back Dylan Edwards announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and its 2023 class. Edwards committed to the Kansas State Wildcats in June over the Oklahoma Sooners, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, and others.

About a month after Edwards committed to KSU, Notre Dame offered the Derby, Kansas, native and he took a visit to see the Irish in South Bend. A couple of days later, Edwards decommitted from the Wildcats — and the writing was on the wall that the Irish were going to flip this dynamic athlete.
Diminutive playmaker with game-breaking potential. A threat to score anytime he gets the ball in space. Has a smaller build for a running back prospect, checking in at a shade over 5-foot-8, 155 pounds the off-season prior to his senior year. A dominant runner and playmaker at the prep level, rushing for 2,603 yards, and 38 touchdowns while averaging a gaudy 12.5 yards per carry as a junior. Regularly rips off long runs, flashing outstanding burst to go with the speed to pull away once in the open field. Validated his play speed by winning the Fastest Man competition at Under Armour Future 50. Uses his lateral agility to make defenders miss tackles in confined spaces. Also shows good field vision, often cutting back across the field. Makes plays in a variety of ways – as a traditional running back, on end arounds, as a receiver out of the backfield or split out wide. Also dangerous as a kick and punt returner. Does not play top competition in Kansas and is almost always the top athlete on the field. Will need to continue adding mass to sustain a sizable workload at the college level. Can also continue improving his ball skills.
Dylan Edwards is the 23rd commitment for Notre Dame’s 2023 class and the second from the state of Kansas — which honestly is just wild. Notre Dame continues to run hot in the 247 Composite Team Rankings and currently has the #1 class in the country.
Notre Dame now has two running backs in this class, but it isn’t done yet. The Irish are still pushing hard for 4-Star RB Jeremiyah Love, and according to Tom Loy, having all three backs in this class is what Notre Dame wants.
The Irish are adding a ton of speed and playmaking ability with Edwards. Yes… he could be bigger, but he’s not. Watch the film and you’ll see a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands, and definitely a prospect that can be a major player at the FBS level.
FIST PUMPS UP FOR DYLAN!
