History was made today in Big Ten country. Indiana football snapped a 24-game losing streak against conference rival Michigan, picking up a win against the Wolverines for the first time since 1987.
The win was a decisive one as well. IU took down Michigan 38-21, a decisive win for the surprising No. 13 team in the nation.
The Hoosiers defense came up with a huge play late to seal the victory. After forcing a 3rd and 25 with just over five minutes remaining, defensive back Devon Matthews picked off Michigan quarterback Joe Milton. After the play, Indiana head coach Tom Allen was PUMPED.
He hustled over to celebrate with Matthews, and took him down while trying to jump on him. The FS1 booth had fun with the whole thing, joking that Tom Allen should’ve been called for targeting. I’m sure Matthews can excuse it.

Indiana’s offense managed to kill off the final five minutes of the game, gaining 20 yards over 10 plays on the last drive. With the win, Indiana football moves to 3-0 on the season.
IU opened the season with a dramatic last-second win over Penn State, 36-35. They handled a much-improved Rutgers team in their second game, 37-21. Today’s win over Michigan improved on that margin by a point.
Right now, Indiana football is the clear pick to be the No. 2 team in the Big Ten East, behind College Football Playoff candidate Ohio State, currently the No. 3 team in the country. After a trip to Michigan State next Saturday, the Hoosiers will head to Columbus to face those Buckeyes on Nov. 21. That game is way bigger than any would’ve expected just a few weeks ago.
