Stanford graduate transfer won’t return for 2nd season at IU

One of the most experienced players on Indiana’s roster will not return in 2021.

Jovan Swann is now focused on making the NFL.

Swann announced Tuesday night that he is declaring for the upcoming draft, leaving IU after one season as a graduate transfer. The Center Gove product played in all eight games for Indiana after coming over from Stanford last spring. Swann finished with four tackles, three hurries and one breakup for his home state school, giving Indiana a veteran presence up front.

We’ll see what happens in the coming days, but Indiana could be on track to lose more experience should Jerome Johnson also enter the draft.

Here’s Swann’s full announcement, which was posted to his Twitter account:

“My faith and family have driven me through the toughest of times and moments in my life. With that said, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the talents and abilities to get me to the position I am in. I give all glory to him for every ounce of my success and achievements.

“To my family and support team, near and far, I think you all as well for uplifting me in every life transition and competition. Also, I would like to thank Coach Allen and Indiana University for giving me another opportunity play college ball at a high level in the Big Ten, another dream come true. The football experiences and relationships gained over the year both were a blessing. I am thankful to have been able to be a part of such a historical team this past season; even with its ups and downs, it will be one to remember.

“In final, after talking with my family, advisors and coaches, I will be declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. This has been a childhood, life-long dream of mine and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for me and what the future holds.”
