Sports World Reacts To The Michigan vs. Indiana Result

The Michigan-Indiana men’s basketball game on Sunday evening was an instant classic.

The two teams went back and forth in both halves before it went to overtime. It came down to the final possession as Indiana was able to get a defensive stop to win by two, 75-73.

It got the Hoosiers to 21-10 overall while the Wolverines dropped to 17-14. It was their second overtime loss this week after they lost to the Illinois Fighting Illini on Thursday.

The college basketball community knows that the Wolverines have to run the table during this week’s Big Ten Tournament to have any shot of making the NCAA Tournament.

“Michigan was in prime position to beat both Illinois or Indiana this week on the road and came up short up twice in OT. Gates of Hell level brutality. Work to do in the Big Ten Tournament,” Jon Rothstein tweeted.

Gates of Hell level brutality.

Work to do in the Big Ten Tournament.

Michigan comes up short in Bloomington against Indiana, and now the Wolverines will need to do some work this week in Chicago at the Big Ten tourney.

“Killer turnover by Bufkin. He played a great game, and so did Michigan, but Indiana gets the win. Wolverines have work to do in Indy,” Seth Davis tweeted.

Incredible win for Indiana.

Just a brutal loss for Michigan.

Michigan suffers two heartbreaking losses to end the regular season, first to Illinois in double overtime and now at Indiana in overtime. Winning both would’ve punched a ticket, winning one would’ve left them in solid shape. Now, a lot of work to do in Chicago this week.

Hard to imagine a more brutal ending to Michigan’s regular season. With two chances to lock up an NCAA bid, the Wolverines lose in double OT at Illinois and OT at Indiana. They’re gonna need a run in the Big Ten tourney

After Indiana came back to tie it at 69 in regulation, IU outscored U-M in OT, 6-4, winning the game, 75-73.

Michigan won’t have a double bye in the Big Ten Tournament. Based on their at-large resume, I think they’d have to win the BTT to make it to the NCAA tournament.

Michigan losses:

OT – Indiana
OT – Illinois
1 PT – Indiana
5 PTs – Purdue
4 PTs – UNC
4 PTs – UK
2 PTS – UVA

Imagine how differently we look at them with just 2 wins from this list.

Another close game, another bummer.

Need at least two Big Ten Tournament wins to even be in the conversation. Slim.
