A five-star Indiana basketball recruit was arrested early Sunday morning.
Per Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star, Mackenzie Mgbako was booked on Class A misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing and resisting law enforcement. The freshman was released after posting bond at 5:25 a.m.
“IU Athletics is aware of the situation,” an Indiana athletic department spokesperson said. “We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.”

Mgbako signed a letter of intent with Duke but decommitted in April. He committed to the Hoosiers a month later, choosing Indiana over Kansas.
Per 247Sports, the 6-foot-8 forward from New Jersey is the No. 10 overall recruit from the class of 2023. The site’s scouting report praised his perimeter shooting and defensive versatility.
Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman projected Mgbako as the No. 14 overall pick in a recent 2024 NBA mock draft.
“He’ll make the biggest impact with transition, spot-up and relocation three-point shooting,” Wasserman wrote earlier this month. “He also has paint touch, which will show when he’s run off the line and forced into floaters.
Mgbako isn’t the most explosive, but he’s still a fluid straight-line driver at his size.”
Indiana will open the 2023-24 regular season against Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Assembly Hall.
