Couple scheduling notes on an otherwise quiet Monday
For the third time this season, Indiana’s women’s basketball schedule has been upended due to a virus surge in an opponent’s program.
IU announced Monday afternoon that Thursday’s game at Michigan State has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues inside the Spartans’ program. It’s the second consecutive game that has been called off for Teri Moren’s team after Monday afternoon’s scheduled contest against Rutgers was bagged due to COVID concerns with the Scarlet Knights.
No word yet on rescheduled dates for the Rutgers and Michigan State games. IU also had a game against Butler canceled in December.
Monday’s news means Indiana will have 10 days between its last game, a 66-45 runaway win over Purdue last Thursday, and its next game on Jan. 24 at Northwestern.
Kentucky scheduled to return to Assembly Hall next season
It’s been 23 years since Indiana hosted the University of Kentucky women’s team for a basketball game at Assembly Hall. Next season, that drought is expected to end.
According to a game contract obtained by Crimson Quarry through an open records request, IU and UK didn’t just commit to one game when they came to a scheduling agreement in November. The schools agreed on two. According to the signed contract, Kentucky committed to a game at Indiana sometime during the 2021-22 season.
The first meeting in the two-game series was a 72-68 Wildcats win on Dec. 6.
It’s a similar setup to the one IU has with Tennessee, which agreed to travel to Bloomington on short notice last month in exchange for a game against the Hoosiers in Knoxville next season.
Hoosiers move up in AP poll
Indiana jumped two spots to No. 16 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 released Monday.
The Hoosiers are one of five Big Ten teams included this week, joining No. 7 Maryland, No. 11 Michigan, No. 17 Ohio State, No. 21 Northwestern.
