Indiana baseball has a chance to win the Lexington Regional with a victory over Kentucky on Sunday night.
They’ll have to get it without starting second baseman Tyler Cerny, who was ejected from last night’s win over the Wildcats for…bringing a prop onto the field to celebrate a home run.
That’s right. Cerny won’t be able to play in the Hoosiers’ biggest game of the season (so far) because of a decision that is being widely criticized on social media.
“Oh the humanity. This is ridiculous,” one Twitter user said in regards to Cerny’s ejection.

“IU’s Tyler Cerny will not play in tonight’s regional championship game. He was ejected last night for bringing out the Crimson Chain to celebrate his teammates home run. It sucks that players are being limited when it comes to celebrating these big moments,” said former Virginia star Stephen Schoch.

“IU’s Tyler Cerny was ejected AND will be suspended for tonight’s game for bringing the home run chain on the field. Common NCAA L,” said the Barstool Indy Twitter account.

“Tyler Cerny has been EJECTED for bringing the celebration chain onto the field. Lol NCAA,” said KSR’s Daniel Hager during last night’s game.

“Clear difference between trying to show up an opponent and just celebrating a big moment, and Tyler Cerny bringing the home run chain out for Serruto was surely the latter. #iubase,” said sportswriter Seth Tow.
Indiana’s just gotta hope that ejection doesn’t matter. Clear difference between trying to show up an opponent and just celebrating a big moment, and Tyler Cerny bringing the home run chain out for Serruto was surely the latter. #iubase

Indiana will face Kentucky at 6 p.m. ET. The Hoosiers must be beaten twice to be eliminated, so if the Wildcats win, a winner-take-all matchup will be on tap for Monday.
Thankfully, Cerny (.276 average, 10 home runs on the season) will be able to play in that one.
