Make it 2: Geronimo latest Hoosier to remove name from transfer portal

NCAA Basketball: Rutgers at Indiana
Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

It was a really, really, really good Monday in Bloomington

First Dane Fife. Then Khristian Lander. And then Jordan Geronimo after that. The good news kept coming for IU on Monday afternoon.

Not long after Fife announced his decision to join new coach Mike Woodson’s coaching staff, and shortly after Lander announced his intention to return to IU for his sophomore season, Geronimo took to Twitter to say he, too, is removing his name from the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Good news abounds in Bloomington.

Geronimo appeared in 21 games off the bench last season, averaging 2.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. The highlight of the season for the long, athletic, 6-foot-6 New Jersey native was a 10-minute cameo in IU’s win at Iowa, where he posted seven points and an assist while playing tough defense on Big Ten Player of the Year Luka Garza. He also recorded eight points and hit two late 3-pointers in IU’s loss at Rutgers in February.

During his week and a half in the portal, Geronimo flirted with varying interest levels from Virginia, Providence, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Penn State and Seton Hall, according to Stockrisers.com’s Jake Weingarten.

But after weighing his options, Geronimo will remain a Hoosier.

“I believe in Coach Woodson,” Geronimo said on Twitter. “Let’s get to work.”

With Geronimo locked in, IU is now waiting on transfer decisions from Armaan Franklin and Race Thompson.
