Everyone is still shaking off the rust in Week 1 of the college football season. That includes Indiana football‘s equipment team apparently.
Coming off of a special 2020 season, the Hoosiers had a very tough afternoon at Kinnick Stadium. Indiana got blasted 34-6 by Iowa to open 0-1 on the year.
To add insult to injury, one of the Hoosiers players’ jerseys featured a very embarrassing error. Freshman running back David Holloman ran onto the field, with the front of his jersey reading “Indinia.”
You’ll occasionally see a player’s name get messed up, which is bad enough. How does this happen?
Holloman didn’t get any run this afternoon, so it was pretty bad luck that he got spotted. Those who saw the field didn’t exactly do the “Indiana” very well either, though.
Michael Penix Jr., a breakout star at quarterback during last year’s impressive season, really struggled, completing just 14-of-31 throws for 156 yards with three interception. The Hoosiers were held to just 77 rushing yards on 31 carries, and outgained overall 303 to 233.
Hopefully everyone involved in the Indiana football program gets things figured out going forward. The team has a manageable game against Idaho next weekend, before a very tough one against No. 8 Cincinnati, the potential future Big 12 member, in Week 3.
