Indiana’s Mike Woodson continues impressive run with addition of Northwestern transfer Miller Kopp

December 18, 2022 by Zags Blog

Indiana coach Mike Woodson continued his recruiting roll on Tuesday with the addition of Northwestern transfer Miller Kopp.

The 6-foot-7 junior averaged 11.3 points and 3.1 rebounds at Northwestern while shooting 40 percent from the field. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

He chose Indiana over offers from Oregon State, Texas A&M, Utah, USC, Creighton, South Carolina, New Mexico, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Wichita State, DePaul, Oklahoma State and Xavier, per ESPN.com.

“Coach Woodson sees my potential as a versatile player and he has a plan for my development,” Kopp told ESPN.com. “With the NBA experience and the respect he has around the game I was curious to at least hear him out. And obviously Indiana has such amazing history and basketball culture which was appealing to me because I’d played against them for three years.”

The addition of Kopp comes one day after Woodson added four-star shooting guard Tamar Bates, a former Texas commit who decommitted after Shaka Smart left to coach Marquette.

He joins an incoming Indiana recruiting class that features Pitt transfer guard Xavier Johnson, UT-Martin wing transfer Parker Stewart and four-star big Logan Duncomb.

Indiana is also set to bring back forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, who announced his intentions to return to the program for his junior season after the hiring Woodson, as well as forward Race Thompson.

Kopp, meantime, expects to play a bigger role at Indiana going forward.

“I think the Big Ten will see a different player,” he told ESPN. “Someone who’s a versatile player offensively and more than a shooter. Playing in the open court, playing in ball screens and more swagged up overall, to be frank.”
