Indiana’s Darian DeVries provides an update on Luke Goode’s, Anthony Leal’s waiver process

Both Goode and Leal are seeking eligibility waivers to return to Indiana for the 2025-26 season.

Indiana men’s basketball’s 2025-26 roster has just about taken shape thanks to new head coach Darian DeVries’ transfer portal moves, but there’s still pieces that could fall into place.

Luke Goode and Anthony Leal, two members of last year’s roster, have both filed waivers with the NCAA to be granted an additional year of eligibility so that they may join next season’s group.

Asked about the waiver process during his appearance at Wednesday’s Hoosiers at Huber’s event at Huber’s Orchard and Winery in Borden, Indiana, DeVries said the program is still awaiting word while noting that the NCAA has received a large amount of waiver requests, which has slowed the process to a degree.

Here’s video of his remarks, from Inside the Hall:

Goode has played four seasons of college basketball, but suffered a foot injury ahead of the 2022-23 season with Illinois and only played in 10 games, all of which were on or after Feb. 11.

Leal has played five seasons, but played just 11 games in the 2022-23 season. His reasons are a but murkier, he suffered an ankle injury in November and didn’t play again until about a month later in December. From there he saw extremely limited playing time as an end of the bench option.

The NCAA has been a it more flexible on waiver decisions than it has in the past with the potential threat of court challenges looming. For reference, Xavier Johnson was granted a waiver after playing in 11 games during the 2022-23 season, but all of those games were in the first half of the season, with the injury he suffered against Kansas being season-ending. That’s a difference from Goode, who was able to return and play the latter third of the season after being held out for the first two thirds.
