The Indiana football program is firing on all cylinders en route to a 3-0 start.
The No. 13 Hoosiers downed No. 23 Michigan with ease on Saturday, 38-21. The win solidified Indiana as a team to take notice of in the Big Ten East.
But for Hoosiers’ defensive back Reese Taylor, the Indiana program is far more than just a conference competitor.
“We should be No. 1 in the country in my eyes, just because of how hard we play, how fast we play,” Taylor told reporters after Saturday’s win.

Now, most college football viewers will scoff at Taylor’s comments. And some of that doubt is justified. But after going through Indiana’s early season résumé, it’s clear that the team deserves at least top-10 recognition.
The Hoosiers are now 3-0 after wins over Penn State, Illinois and Michigan, tying them with Ohio State for first-place in the Big Ten East. It’s the first time Indiana has started off with three straight wins in conference play since 1988.
The team can certainly compete anybody, as long as Michael Penix Jr. continues to play at a high level. The dual-threat redshirt-sophomore played well once again against Michigan, going 30-for-50 for 342 yards and three touchdowns. In 2020, he’s scored nine total touchdowns and led the offense with ease.
The Hoosiers ranked 13th in the AP Poll going into the win against the Wolverines, so it’s likely they’ll climb up a few more spots by the end of the weekend.
Unfortunately for Indiana, if Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State remain undefeated it’s unlikely that the Hoosiers will break into the country’s top three.
For now, the Hoosiers will have to turn their focus forward for when they take on Michigan State next Saturday.
