The Hawkeye guard visits campus this week.
Indiana men’s basketball hosts two transfer portal targets today, Ryan Conwell, and Josh Dix, a shooting guard/wing from Iowa.
Like Indiana, Iowa is also undergoing a coaching change, with Fran McCaffery on the outs and Ben McCollum taking over the reigns. As we’ve reported, McCollum is an accomplished coach, so he could make a strong pitch if he wants to keep Dix.
Last year at Iowa, Dix’s third season, he started every game and averaged 14.4 points per contest. He played at both the two and three spots for McCaffery, taking 4.8 3-pointers a game and hitting them at a 42.2% clip, the highest of his career.
While he was never the primary ball handler, Dix averaged 2.8 assists per game versus just .8 turnovers. He also averaged fewer than two fouls per game, making him available for the 32.3 minutes per game he averaged last season.
With a completely empty roster, Dix would be a good start for Darian DeVries and company to hit the ground running with a transfer portal signing who has proven himself to be productive in the Big Ten.
Looking at the bigger picture, Dix is also a guy who could play alongside somebody like Tucker DeVries, who is expected to commit to Indiana, and somebody like Conwell or Connor Enright, another portal prospect the Hoosiers are pursuing.
