Five former Hoosiers played in Week 1

The 2021 NFL season is underway and we’re here to keep you updated on how all of the former Hoosiers in the pros performed over the weekend.

Here’s how alumni of the Indiana football program performed in the NFL in Week 1.

OT Jason Spriggs, Atlanta Falcons

Spriggs played just two snaps in Atlanta’s 32-6 loss to Philadelphia. The former second-round draft pick is in his first season with the Falcons and his fifth season overall.

TE Ian Thomas, Carolina Panthers

Thomas played 35 snaps on offense in the Panthers’ win over the Jets, plus four snaps on special teams. He was targeted twice by Carolina quarterback Sam Darnold, hauling in one catch for 17 yards.

OG Brandon Knight, Dallas Cowboys

On Dallas’ depth chart, Knight is listed as the Cowboys’ backup right guard and third-string left tackle but he was on the Injured Reserve/COVID-19 list for undisclosed reasons for the team’s Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay.

S Jamar Johnson, Denver Broncos

Johnson, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was inactive for Denver’s 27-13 win over New York.

RB Tevin Coleman, New York Jets

Coleman played 17 snaps in New York’s Week 1 loss at Carolina and he took nine carries for 24 yards in his Jets debut. Coleman, now 28 and in his seventh year in the NFL, got the start on Sunday. He’ll split carries this season with rookie Michael Carter (four carries for six yards) and Ty Johnson (four carries for 15 yards).

The Jets, who lost left tackle Mekhi Becton to an injury in Week 1, could struggle offensively this season. They managed just 45 rushing yards on Sunday.

OG Dan Feeney, New York Jets

After four seasons with the L.A. Chargers, Feeney signed with the Jets in the offseason. He didn’t see any action in Week 1.

QB Nate Sudfeld, San Francisco 49ers

Two 49ers quarterbacks saw action in San Francisco’s 41-33 win over Denver, but Sudfeld, the team’s third-string quarterback, wasn’t one of them.

OT Roger Saffold, Tennessee Titans

Saffold started for the Titans in their 38-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and he played all 64 offensive snaps.

WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee Titans

Westbrook-Ikhine played 24 offensive snaps on Sunday, which was the fourth-most among the team’s wide receivers, plus he played 12 snaps on special teams. Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill targeted Westbrook-Ikhine twice and he caught one pass for 10 yards on 3rd & 10, which picked up a first down on a scoring drive.
