Fuente wrapped up a six-year stint at Virginia Tech by going 5-5 in 2021. The 2016 ACC Coach of the Year went 43-31 with the Hokies, winning one of four bowl games.
Before going to Virginia Tech, Fuente steered Memphis to 19 victories in 2014 and 2015. The Tigers averaged 40.2 points per game in his final season with Paxton Lynch under center.
Tom Allen may require some assistance with the Hoosiers reeling. Indiana fell to 2-3 after allowing five passing touchdowns to Taulia Tagovailoa in Saturday’s 44-17 loss to Maryland.
The Hoosiers are averaging 5.0 yards per play and 20.8 points per game. Only Illinois (19.2) and Nebraska (19.0) have lower scoring averages in the Big Ten.
Meanwhile, Indiana is 2-18 in conference play dating back to 2021. Allen’s program hasn’t won a Big Ten game in regulation since Week 1 of the 2022 season.
That trend isn’t likely to change when the Hoosiers go into Ann Arbor to play No. 2 Michigan. They’ll enter The Big House as considerable underdogs for Saturday’s game, which starts at noon ET.
