On Wednesday night, it was announced that legendary basketball coach Bob Knight passed away. He was 83 years old.
ESPN’s Dick Vitale immediately reacted to this heartbreaking news on social media. As you’d imagine, he had kind things to say about Knight.
“A true legend – Robert Montgomery Knight – THE GENERAL ! May he RIP,” Vitale wrote on X.

Knight was hospitalized with an illness in April. Unfortunately, he was in poor health for many years.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family,” the Knight family said in a statement. “We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored.”
Knight, a Hall of Fame coach who won three national championships at Indiana, will never be forgotten in the world of sports. His intensity on the sideline was matched by few.
Our thoughts are with the Knight family at this time.
