Ristic and Acimovic, two international prospects set to join the Hoosiers as freshmen, have yet to arrive in Bloomington.
Darian DeVries addressed the media on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Indiana’s trip to Puerto Rico. During this availability, he was asked about the status of the program’s two incoming international freshmen, guard Aleksa Ristic of Serbia and center Andrej Acimovic of Bosnia.
Neither is with the program just yet, but Indiana is working on getting them to Bloomington, DeVries said.
“They’re going to be tired when they get here,” DeVries joked “We should have for sure one of them, hopefully, in the next day or two. That’s our hope. Then we’ll get him acclimated as quickly as possible. If that means he gets the opportunity to play in Puerto Rico great. If we can’t get him close enough there, the last thing we want to do is put him in a position where he’s just not ready. But I’m excited for that. It’s just going to add to our depth, getting more guys as we get into the fall, hopefully healthy. Hopefully we can get through Puerto Rico in a good state and get some more bodies in here and continue to develop that depth is going to be important for us.”
Ristic is a versatile guard who averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game with KK Dynamic, a team in the Basketball League of Serbia. Acimovic averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the U19 ABA League.
