Justin Taylor, the 6-foot-6 small forward from St. Anne’s-Belfield School (VA) and Team Takeover, is coming off an official visit to Syracuse that followed visits to North Carolina and Virginia Tech.
The Syracuse visit was this weekend.
“Syracuse has been recruiting me for awhile now and have made me a huge priority,” Taylor said. “I think with this being Buddy [Boeheim]’s last year, they want me to come in and take that role over and make an impact right away.”
Taylor is one of several priority recruits for Syracuse in 2022, along with bigs Kyle Filipowski and Donovan Clingan and guard J.J. Starling. He is ranked the No. 21 small forward in 2022 per 247Sports.com.
Taylor also took an unofficial to Virginia Tech on June 3 and and an official to North Carolina the weekend of June 5.
“Virginia Tech was a really good unofficial,” Taylor said. “It was nice finally getting to meet Coach [Mike] Young and the staff in person finally. They spent a lot of time showing me clips of plays they run conducive to my playing style, and preached how well I would fit into their system.”
As for North Carolina, he said: “I had a great time taking the official to UNC and walking around Chapel Hill. The town itself around UNC has a great atmosphere. It was great meeting the new coaching staff and hanging with the players. We were even lucky enough to meet with Coach [Roy] Williams and have breakfast with him. Their main message for me is their need for a guy who can shoot the ball and stretch the floor out. They showed me clips of Justin Jackson and Cam Johnson, both big guards who could shoot and score the ball.”
Next up Taylor will take an official to Indiana Tuesday-Wednesday and they have also talked with Virginia coach Tony Bennett about an unofficial.
