After decommitting from Duke last month, the college basketball recruiting world has been watching and waiting impatiently to see where five-star forward Mackenzie Mgbako would go. Today, he made his decision.

According to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, Mgbako has committed to Indiana. He chose Mike Woodson and the Hoosiers over Kansas – the other finalist for his services.

“I chose IU because I felt that Coach Woodson can put me in a position to expand and develop my game,” Mgbako told On3 Sports. “The environment at Indiana is unmatched. It’s a place where I felt support from the coaching staff and fans. With Indiana and it’s roster, there’s a great possibility to achieve big things and create a winning culture.”

The 2023 Roselle Catholic forward ranks No. 8 overall according to 247Sports. He is the No. 2 power forward in the country and the No. 3 prospect from the state of New jersey.

It’s hard to understate how big of a coup landing Mackenzie Mgbako is for Indiana. The Hoosiers already had two four-star prospects joining them in the Class of 2023 along with former five-star Kel’el Ware joining them from Oregon.

But in adding Mgbako into the fold, Indiana now has one of the top recruiting classes in the Big Ten and replacements for the stars that helped them reach the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 this past year.

Will Mgbako play as a freshman this year?
