Indiana’s Tom Allen is a finalist for another national coach of the year award.
The Maxwell Football Club announced Allen as one of six finalists for the George Munger Award, along with Ohio State’s Ryan Day, Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell, Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell, Liberty’s Hugh Freeze, and Alabama’s Nick Saban.
The winner of the Munger Award will be announced Jan. 19. Allen was also previously named a finalist for the Football Writers Association of America’s Eddie Robinson Award, as well as the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award. Allen was also a finalist for the Dodd Trophy, which went to Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald.
Allen has already won the Big Ten’s coach of the year honors, both from the media and his fellow coaches.
IU (6-2) had many notable achievements in 2020, making consecutive January bowls for the first time in school history. The Hoosiers were ranked for a program-record nine weeks in a row, including its first top-10 ranking since 1969.
During a conference-only season, IU beat Penn State, Michigan, and Wisconsin in the same year for the first time in program history. IU’s three wins over top-25 programs were tied for second-most in the country, behind only Alabama’s four.
