(WXIN/WTTV) — A three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion is coming to Indiana.
Multiple reports from Monday afternoon confirm that guard Mac McClung has signed a multi-year contract. ESPN’s Shams Charania was the first to report the news.
In order to sign McClung, the Pacers have waived former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman to create roster space. This comes after Indiana suffered many injuries at the guard position to start the season.
The NBA’s first three-peat slam dunk contest champion, the 26-year-old McClung will reportedly sign a non-guaranteed multi-year deal with the Pacers. The guard, who last spent time with the Orlando Magic, has officially played six NBA games and was the 2023-24 G-League MVP.
Known for his high-flying aerial finishes, McClung has never signed a standard NBA contract before. He has spent time in training camps and on two-way deals since coming onto the scene in 2021.
Indiana is currently dealing with injuries to several key players in the backcourt, including Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell, Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard. Last game, the Pacers started typical 2-guard Ben Sheppard at point guard and two centers to help fill out the lineup.
